I hope all of you have had an opportunity to explore our new web site, www.chicagowomeninrealestate.org/. This technology effectively communicates the part W.I.R.E. plays in our real estate community.
Have you ever sent an email, carefully typing the email address, only to find that the recipient did not receive your message? I have done this myself, only to find that I ended the address with “.com” and it should have been “.net”. Email addresses aren’t just random words and dots.
With hundreds of thousands of computers on the Internet, it is important to keep things organized. The Internet is separated into domains, areas of the Internet devoted to certain purposes or organizations. There is a domain used principally for business (.com), a domain for colleges and universities (.edu), even one for nonprofits (.org). |

|
Here is a list of these top-level domains.
com Commercial (for profit) organization edu Educational institution gov Government organization (non-military) mil Military organization net Networking organization nato NATO organization org Non-profit or not for profit organization
If we were to looking for the White House a good guess would be http://www.whitehouse.gov. If you’re sending an email message to a government department know that their address must end in “.gov” for example.
All email addresses must include these domain names. I hope this very basic explanation will help you while working on the Internet.
